born and breathing
clouds and needles, feeding
feeble minds and mouths
we start to flutter, birth
each other, bleed
the steeple, tear
the feathers, glisten
stinging blue in ripples
dimed decisions blessed
like people, eating wafers
worn through papers
wined and dined and
paired with teachers
will it be, this time,
enough
smiling extra for pennies
proving we are small
but
tough.
